Library Thursday Blog Hop 02.03.11

Library Thursday is a weekly blog hop Hosted By Lazy Girl Reads and started to:

1. Encourage people to support their libraries when they can

 2. Meet new bloggy friends and grow your following

If you would like to hop along, visit  Lazy Girl Reads for the details.
At first, it didn't look like my library had the books I needed to read before going on with my borrowed gallies and that was a huge disappointment, so I put off reading those digital prints as they are part of series, I needed to read the first and second books before that particular galley. Then, I d
id some research and realized my library was actually participating with a lending program within our state. Every book I need is available to me. So those gallies are back on, thanks to my library.

If your local library does not offer this, maybe try another county. My library that I visit regularly is not in the county where I live. When I moved I kept my library as I love it so much. It has several branches and lots of options. My true local library that is in my county does not offer any of the services that I crave such as, putting books on hold from other branches, digital downloads or the lending program. Not every county participates in these programs. I am not sure why they are not included, but I can surely see how unfortunate it is.

The adult winter reading contest is still going on and I have until February 19 to finish up and receive a free book from the winter reading cart. While I should have doubled my money, I see now I'm lucky to finish the four needed.

I did not get through reading 3 of the books I returned recently. I hated to return them unread but they were part of series with several books to each series (Vampire Diaries and The Immortals) Both series I have wanted to read and I will. I'm doubting I will get through them this year while I have so many books waiting to be read. I love series and I'm thinking these will be on my 'to buy' list. And even if I have to wait all the way until Christmas, it will be worth it. By the way, I have not been able to shop for books for quit some time, so that 'to buy' list is freaking huge!

Some of the books I have on my TBR I have requested and I owe that author my time in reading for a review. Requests to authors, finding cool gallies, and discovering the ease of putting books on hold at the Library all have led me creating a fine reading stack. I grabbed too many at once and have been overwhelmed as where to begin. When the little wonders started showing up in my mailbox...Whoot!... my attention span was toast.

I might be back on track. I have extended a few things and going to finish up Shiver and Linger by Maggie Stiefvater for that free book at my library.

My newest borrowed library books are The Iron King and The Iron Daughter so I can finish my borrowed galley The Iron Queen, all from the author Julie Kagawa. See, I told you I was behind things. I had really hoped to have these reads done by now. I had wanted to post my review for The Iron Queen when it was released on January 25. The way things are looking, my review will probably be closer to February 25 or later.

Cynthia,
This is a great post!
Did you also know that if your library doesn't have a book you want you can ask them to pick up a copy?
That is a great way for authors to sell books and get copies for everyone to enjoy at the same time.

Oh I love Julie Kagawa's Iron Fey series! I'm so glad you're library has the lending program. And Brenda is right about asking them to get a copy of the book. I even did that at my children's school library. Of course, the librarian was a friend of mine. But still two more books sold for that particular author.

@Brenda :) thank you and that is an awesome idea! I thought about that and I will give that a go, even for the ones I have and my library might not have. You are so right and I'm glad you made mention of it.

@Heather I am so looking forward to The Iron Fey and that lending program makes me fall in love all over again with the libraries. Especially so when finances are tight and I am so depending on my library.

@Bookworm Thank you and me too. I want to get caught up :) Rather I make my goals or not really is not the difference. Even if I keep the slow pace I have going, it is working out alright. You are so right, there are so many. Isn't it great!
